DAP and DDP are designed to leave the difficulties of international shipping in the hands of sellers that do international commerce all the time, rather than in the hands of a buyer that might have limited experience. DDP innebär ett maximalt åtagande av säljaren och namnet antyder så står säljaren för VAT (Moms), tullavgifter samt övriga skatter. I villkoret DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) ska säljaren bära kostnaderna för tullklarering samt tull och andra skatter vid import. Det är villkoret med längst gående skyldigheter för säljaren. I regelboken Incoterms varnas säljaren för DDP. Det handlar då särskilt frågan om moms. DDP betyder att godset levereras förtullat och DDP är den leveransklausul som innebär de mest långtgående skyldigheterna för säljaren. Leveransklausulen DAP "Delivered at place" (Levererat angiven plats) innebär att säljaren avlämnar godset när det ställts till köparens förfogande på anländande transportmedel, klart för lossning på den angivna destinationen.

DDP is somewhat the reverse of Incoterm EXW; it represents the greatest obligation for the seller because he assumes all costs and risks of the operation, including import procedures, to deliver the goods at the agreed place in buyer's country. The only cost do not assume by the seller is the unloading of goods at delivery place.
